Dolphins Travel to Texas

The Dolphins traveled to Austin, Texas mid-January to compete at the New Year’s Classic at the Texas Swim Center. Three-quarters of the Dolphin swims were best times. Many swimmers competed in both Prelims and Finals, with 33 top 8 finishes, and 10 first place finishes. Cameron Stitt posted two new Top 10 times in the 1650 Free and 400 IM, and came close to the Oregon State Record in both events. Not only was it a fast meet at a fast pool, the Dolphins got to see Olympian Neil Walker swim in several events, and met Aron Piersal and Ian Crocker. We’re looking forward to more fast swimming as our championship season quickly approaches.

Top Ten Finish at 11-14 Championships

What a weekend for Dolphin swimmers as a combined team effort resulted in a top ten finish for The Dolphins as a whole! Ten swimmers representing The Dolphins at last weekend's State Championship in Corvallis, Oregon, scored enough points to place the team in the ranks of the Top Ten! All the other teams in the top ten, and even a number of teams finishing below ours, had significantly more swimmers. Congratulations also are due to our two new State Champions -- Connor McDonald, who won the 50 and 100 Free, and Mac McDonald, who won the 50 Free! All in all, Dolphin swimmers posted 76% best times, and earned 23 medals, with Connor McDonald, Mac McDonald, and Amy Wiley medaling in all their events. Benjamin Blankenmeister, Bridget Chan, and Gunnar Wolfe also qualified for finals and medaled at State. Several new sectional times were posted by swimmers, including Taylor Hurwitz. And it was great to have Natalie Groat participate at her first State Championship ever!! But we couldn't have been as successful if not for the team spirit and dedication shown by Erin Nobach and Daniel Or, who came to Corvallis to support the team by helping lead our relay teams to top five finishes in almost all their events. Congratulations to all our State swimmers and to our wonderful coaches for a job well done!

The Dolphins Bring Home the Gold in the 2005 SCY Championships

With almost 90% of all our 10 & Under swimmers participating, the Dolphins kept things exciting at the Speedo 2005 10 & Under Short Course Championship in Springfield, Oregon this weekend. Overall, 70% of the swims were best times, 40 finishes were in the top 5, and 62 were in the top 10 (out of 85 individual events).

But the excitement didn't start or finish there. The 10 & Under Boys Relay, featuring Alex Bloch, Cameron Stitt, Cole Hurwitz, and Jordan Hurwitz, finished first in both the Freestyle and Medley Relays, with an impressive 2:16.10 in the Medley Relay (watch out David Douglas!). The 10 & Under Girls Relay team posted sectional times in their events and medaled in the Freestyle Relay. The 8 & Under Relays kept the positive momentum going on Sunday, too. The 8 & Under Boys finished 3d and 4th in their events. And those girls! Sara Bloch, Ciara Wolfe, Nina Stitt, Molly Davis, and Meredith Kenton took home gold in the Freestyle and Medley Relays -- a nice way to start and finish the day! Thanks to all the parents for their great team spirit that made it a fun weekend -- from cheering, to timing, to coming early to reserve seats. All in all, it was a great weekend!
