Parent Support
There are several ways you can support your swimmer and The Dolphin Swim Team. While we have no required volunteer hours or fundraising requirements on our club - we need parent support to make the team function well and community vibrant.
1. Help Put on Pool Covers
During October-May @ the West Hills location, we are required to put pool covers on every night. We ask parents with swimmers in the final practice to come help. It takes less than 10 minutes with just 3-4 helpers. While getting out of our cars in the dark, wet, cold winters sounds very unappealing - imagine how our coaches feel after standing outside for hours and our swimmers feel in swim suits. No sign-ups - just show up.
2. Become a Squad Parent
We'd like to have 1 green squad parent, 1 white squad parent, and 1 red/blue squad parent. The role of the squad parent is to be a conduit of communication between members within their squad, help build community by organizing at least one social event for the squad every 4 months (Jan-April / May-August / September-December), and being a resource for the coaches and members of the squad. We encourage squad parents to put their own spin on the role and have fun with it. If you're interested in being a squad parent - mention this to a coach and they can put you in contact with the right person.
3. Be a Lane Time at Meets
Typically a team is assigned a lane to time at swim meets. It is that teams responsiblity to provide timers for that lane during meet sessions. It is important to provide relief to our timers. Without timers, the meets can't happen and its important our team support the meets we attend by providing timer volunteers. Parents, teen siblings, family friends, and extended family can all provide timing support. Please watch meet information distributed prior to meets for our lane assigment.
4. Intersquad & Dual Meets
When we host these - typically 1-2/annually, we need ALL parents to support that have a swimmer at the event. Our team is small and there are many roles to fill to run a meet smoothly. Prior to these meets a sign-up is distributed with the different types of roles needed. Keep an eye out for it.
5. Share your Special Talent
Perhaps you're a writer, web designer, photographer, or something else that you feel could benefit the team. Mention your talent to a coach and they will tell you who to reach out to get more involved.
6. Support your Swimmer
Please read our "parent code of conduct".
7. Become an Official
Without officials on our team, our team recieves fewer swim meet invites. As an official you play a valuable role at swim meets. More information will be added to this section about the different types of "officials' you can train to become. Contact Fumy Yoshino to learn more about becoming an official.
